A key component of the Scouts program is Community Service. Community service activities provide an opportunity to develop many important skills as well as a sense of connection with the community. It not only helps the community, but teaches youth how to make contributions to society as youth and adults.
There area number of awards available to recognize Scouts who contribute to their community. In particular, at the Troop level, Scouts can pursue the Chief Scout's Award by leading or contributing to projects of personal significance that have an impact in the community; completing Personal Progression within their Patrol; and by attaining a minimum number of Outdoor Adventure Skills stages.
In collaboration with the Everett Crowley Park Committee, 76 BSG completed 16 person hours of community service removing invasive species from Everett Crowley Park. .
In collaboration with the Green Team Vancouver, 76 BSG completed 17.5 person hours of community service removing invasive species from Ron Mclean Park.
The number of participants was limited for this event, but fortunately all Cub Howlers, who are moving up to Troop next year, were able to participate earning service hours important for their Seeonee Cubs Top Section Award.
The Scouts for Sustainability program includes several themes derived from the International Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations, these include specific activities within the categories of Environment, Society, and Innovation.
